An accomplished Jedi Master‚ Qui-Gon Jinn travels the galaxy to protect the citizens of the Republic and uphold justice from system to system. Other Jedi Masters often use Qui-Gon’s focused sensitivity to the Force as an example for their pupils. Qui-Gon’s own apprentice‚ Obi-Wan Kenobi‚ is always at his side‚ and learns from his wisdom and experience. Although a little past his prime‚ he remains a powerful warrior and a very active Jedi Knight.

Qui-Gon Jinn is closely attuned to the Force‚ has a strong empathy toward all life forms‚ and follows his instincts even when others may consider them reckless. Still thought by many to be the most skilled of the Jedi warriors‚ the fact that he was sent to Naboo with only an apprentice indicates the Council’s grudging respect for his abilities.

Trained by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn‚ young Obi-Wan Kenobi is an excellent apprentice. His skills are already quite impressive‚ and Master Qui-Gon is proud of his pupil’s quick thinking and resourcefulness.

Obi-Wan is not yet a Jedi‚ but his training is almost complete. His dedication to the Jedi way and the nobility of his character deeply honor the efforts of his mentor. However‚ brash and impulsive‚ he has much to learn about the nature of sentient beings and the subtleties of the Force.

Often referred to as “the quickest eyes on Naboo‚” Captain Panaka is the head of the Queen’s security forces. Captain Panaka is an expert in his field‚ and he knows it. Even in the presence of awe-inspiring Jedi Knights‚ he relies on his own experience and instincts to guide his actions. He is no fool‚ and realizes that the Jedi are probably acting in his Queen’s and his people’s best interest; but‚ throughout the Republic things are no longer what they used to be‚ and one needs to be extremely careful. Especially when dealing with external matters. Especially when one is Head of Security.

At fourteen‚ Queen Amidala rules over the Naboo people with the freshness of her young years and the efficiency of a true leader. Through her rigorous training‚ Amidala has demonstrated her dedication to the well-being of Naboo‚ and she has quickly earned the trust and loyalty of the people who elected her.

A disheveled nine-year-old with blue eyes‚ Anakin Skywalker is an earnest and hardworking boy who lives in the slave quarters of Mos Espa‚ on the planet Tatooine. A natural mechanic‚ he has a keen intuition with equipment and machinery. He can sense what makes an engine work. Leading a very humble life‚ Anakin dreams of becoming a starpilot and longs for a world of adventure. Good at heart‚ hopeful and optimistic‚ this young boy little suspects the destiny and fearful challenges that await him.

Padmé Naberrie is really Queen Amidala in disguise.

A shrewd and gruff proprietor of a junk shop in Mos Espa, Watto is a crabby, unshaven Toydarian with a love of credits and gambling. Although considered one of the smaller shops of Mos Espa, Watto's junkyard is nonetheless a treasure trove of discarded machinery and spare parts.

Among Watto’s possessions were the slaves Anakin and Shmi Skywalker. Having won them from Gardulla the Hutt in a Podracing bet, Watto put them both to work in his shop. Young Anakin showed an incredible talent for machinery repair, and Watto took a shine to the boy. Even though he was unscrupulous enough to keep a slave, Watto was a fair master. It most probably had to do with the fact that the boy was a prime source of income for Watto, not only in keeping his machinery running, but also actually competing for Watto in the Podraces.

A fussy and worry-prone protocol droid, C-3PO was cobbled together from discarded scrap and salvage by a nine-year old prodigy on the desert planet Tatooine. Young Anakin Skywalker had intended the home-made droid to help his mother, Shmi. With limited resources, the droid that Anakin built was truly remarkable. It lacked an outer shell, though, and Threepio had to live with the indignity of being “naked,” with his parts and wiring showing.

When Anakin befriended Padmé Naberrie of Naboo, Threepio first met her astromech droid, the blue-and-white droid R2-D2. The two formed a fast friendship, working together to perfect Master.

A resourceful, spunky and adventurous astromech droid, R2-D2 has saved the day time and again. His little .96-meter tall frame is packed with all sorts of tool-tipped appendages that make him a great starship mechanic and computer interface specialist. It's his bravery, however, that has made him an invaluable asset to his owners and friends.

R2-D2 comes from the peaceful world of Naboo, where he and a team of astromechs served the elected monarch aboard her Royal Starship. When the greedy Trade Federation invaded Naboo, Queen Amidala rushed away from her world and ran afoul of a blockade. When the Royal Starship sustained damage to its shields, it was R2-D2 who repaired the ship, allowing it to escape into hyperspace. The droid used his magnetized rollers to cling tenaciously to the chromed surface of the ship while deadly turbolaser blasts rained overhead. For his courage, Artoo was personally thanked and recognized by Queen Amidala.

To complete further repairs, the Royal Starship set down on the barren Outer Rim world of Tatooine. Artoo-Detoo accompanied Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and Royal Handmaiden Padmé Naberrie to the port city of Mos Espa to gather spare parts. Artoo carried the technical details for the necessary parts. While waiting out a sandstorm in a local hovel, Artoo-Detoo met the homemade protocol droid C-3PO, and struck up a friendship that would eventually last decades.

Artoo later returned to Naboo with the Queen. He served as onboard astromech to Anakin Skywalker, a young rookie pilot who, despite not being authorized to do so, flew an N-1 starfighter into the Battle of Naboo.
